Tegucigalpa. The Regional Committee of the General Strike today, issued its bulletin number one, in which it summons all the organizations of the popular movement and the people, to “ join in the big general strike in defence of our sacred rights won in historical struggles ” .
It was announced that the strike is in the preparatory stage, and already the Central Strike Committee has been organized, in addition to the strike committees for the North, Central, South zones and the committees of the base organizations.

The general strike
answers to the problems of violation to the human and labour and rights of the kind that support the denial of the regime of Porfirio Lobo, to decree adjustment to the minimum wage and with the aim of approving legislative decrees for a National United Anti crisis Plan of Employment and a Public Private Investment Law; and addresses the indifference to the teachers’ struggle in defence of Public Education and the financial and political crisis in the educational system.

The Regional Committee of the General Strike consists of the Unitary Confederacy of Workers of Honduras (CUTH); the Confederacy of Workers of Honduras (CTH); the General Head office of Workers (CGT); the Collective of Honduran Women Codemuh; the Popular Block; Coordinated Banana Workers Unions (Cosiba); secondary and university students; other instances of the Honduran people, and members of the FNRP.

In the six months of the Lobo regime, 168 women were savagely murdered. The Regional Committee of General Strike, denounces that in the first six months alone, of the regime of Porfirio Lobo, there have been 168 women “ brutally murdered”, according to statistics of the Public Department, by which the accusation can be made that there is a "regression" of the rights of the women, and indifference to the increase in femicides.

On adjustments to the minimum wage.

The Committee demands that Porfirio Lobo make the adjustment to the minimum wage "retroactive", which by law should have been approved on December 31, and be applied from January 1; and to this time still it has not been effectively applied.

The Strike committee questions the fact that the high cost of the basic basket (cost of living index) and the economic increase in the services of health, education that the people need to survive, “ is out of balance with the income of the hard-working population ”, endangering the health and the life of the impoverished families of this country.

They point out that the situation is much more acute in the industrial ‘maquilero’ (“sweatshop”) sector, in which the workers survive on 121 lempiras and 32 cents daily, and haven’t had an the adjustment to the minimum wage for three years. Also they endorse the demand of the civil servants in his struggle for a just wage rise.

Rejection of The AGREEMENT to a Regulatory Law of the Regimen of Public to Private Participation.

The Public Committee rejects the Regulatory Law of the Regimen of Public to Private Participation, because it privatises the public services; and the National United Plan of Employments Anti-crisis (AGREEMENT), because it violates the Constitution of the Republic, the Work Code, International Agreements and Treaties, and the hard-working population will lose all labour rights after this law is legalized.

They make the charge that the problem of unemployment in Honduras is not a fault of the hard-working population, but of “ private enterprise lacking development initiative”. It is just like any of the governments that have dedicated themselves  “ to exploiting the working class to gain fabulous profits at the price of drowning the people in misery” with the result that to survive, the worker accepts any job however precarious.

The whole people against the privatising law for education.

It is declared that it is the responsibility of the people as a whole, and not just the teachers, to fight against the draft of General Law of Education, which restricts public education up to 15 years of age, and afterwards forces parents to pay in private schools, which is “ impossible for poor people”.

In addition, there is an expression of repudiation of the regime of Lobo Sosa for his repression of the teachers to whom they offer solidarity and unconditional support in defence of the right to Public Education and the financial stability of the National Institute for Teacher Welfare (Inprema), “ plundered by the coup masters “of more than four million two hundred thousand lempiras worth of contributions and pay deductions to teacher loan repayments.

Members of the strike movement demand that Lobo Sosa stop the repression and the harassment, and to come up with a prompt solution to the conflict in the countryside, especially in case of the Unified Rural Movement of the Aguan (MUCA).
